Govinda's Global
Our Story – From Tradition to Taste
Govinda is one of the prominent names of Lord Krishna which means “He who gives pleasure to the senses”, and although the devotees are always eager to give pleasure to the Lord, the Lord also reciprocates by giving pleasure to his devotees. Therefore, He blesses the devotees with the delicious remnants of the foodstuffs offered to Him, which is known as prasadam, and all the devotees relish these foodstuffs to their full satisfaction. Prasadam distribution has always been an essential part of the Hare Krishna movement, as envisioned by Srila Prabhupada. Govinda’s carries forward this vision by serving nourishing, non-sectarian meals infused with love and devotion. Govinda’s restaurants offer patrons, devotees, and newcomers the opportunity to partake in this delicious prasadam with over 150 ISKCON Restaurants around the world.

Inspired by Srila Prabhupada
Satsvarupa das Goswami wrote this on June 18, 1974: "The other day His Divine Grace revealed in detail his plans for Hare Krsna restaurants, which can be opened anywhere in the world. After his talk most recently, he told me to see that this information is disseminated to all the devotees. He described it as 'the next phase of our movement.' Please therefore make a newsletter of the information that follows for all-ISKCON distribution. "

Reading Rooms & Restaurants
Tamal Krsna Goswami wrote :
"Srila Prabhupada has suggested
that rather than opening any more temples in the U.S. that we open combinations
of reading rooms and restaurants. After the local people frequent these, then
we can open temples. These reading rooms and restaurants will be appreciated by
the public as not being sectarian.”

Global Impact
We are blessed to manage a successful Govinda’s in Toronto. This initiative is a humble attempt to provide an easy-to-follow template, guidance and cookbook to help set up new centers worldwide to support in spreading the ISKCON movement.
